He was a native Iowa having been born in Jefferson county in 1845. When ten years of age he moved with his parents to Dallas county, Iowa and has resided here since. He was married to Sarah Jane Todd, January 17, 1865, and to this union there has been born four sons and two daughters, all of whom are living. Mr. Long, accompanied by his wife, went to Missouri during the holidays to visit relatives. While there he was taken sick and brought to Waukee where he died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. H. E. Cadwell. He had been suffering from lagrippe and it was the return of the malady and with complicated heart trouble that caused his death. In his death the community suffers the loss of a good man, the family a kind and loving father. In early life he became a member of the Christian church. He will long be held in remembrance as a kindly hearted, upright man and citizen.
