Sheldon K. "Bo" Keith, 80, of Punta Gorda, Fla., former Shelbyville resident, died Friday at Hospice of the Southwest in Port Charlotte, Fla.

Born Oct. 24, 1919, in Shelbyville, he was the son of Jesse and Bessie (Wasson) Keith. On Aug. 14, 1947, he married Martha (Larkin) Keith, and she survives.

He was a U.S. Army veteran and a former prisoner of war, having served in the 99th Infantry Division during World War II. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart.

Mr. Keith had been the superintendent of Forest Hill Cemetery for 50 years, and was also employed by the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles as a supervisor for 19 years.

He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Shelbyville, and the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans and Elks Lodge in Florida. A Republican, he served on the Shelbyville City Council for 12 years.

Mr. Keith was a volunteer for the Boy Scouts of America and a recipient of the Silver Beaver award. He was a member of the Indiana Cemetery Association and the American Cemetery Association.

Other survivors include two sons, Stephen L. Keith, Indianapolis, and Douglas P. Keith, Lafayette; one daughter, Mrs. Scott (Diane) Scales, Lafayette; one brother, Paul Keith, Redlands, Calif.; one sister, Morricena Mault, Indianapolis; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by one brother and four sisters.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Corlis Dees II officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by Shelby County veterans organizations.
