Obituary:

DOROTHY ANN CHAPMAN was born Sept. 3, 1857 at Erie County, New York. Died at her home in the town of Unity, Oct. 9,1921, aged 94 years.

Mr. and Mrs. Chapman was to the best of our knowledge among the first, if not the first settlers in the town of Unity as they settled upon the homestead in 1856 and continued to reside there until the time of her death.

Mr. and Mrs. Chapman were married in Canada in 1844 and came to Wisconsin in 1856 settling in Jefferson County, then the Wisconsin frontier, but the lure of the north fasinated [sic] them and they (looked), in to the unbroken forests of the north. When they came into Clark County their nearest trading posts were Neillsville and Stevens Point and the necessities had to be packed in from those distant towns. Mr. Chapman passed to he great beyond in 1873.

Mrs. Chapman was the mother of fourteen children three of whom are living, James Chapman of Unity; Joseph Chapman of Lac du Flambeau, and Mrs. Charlotte Meade of Rapid City, South Dakota, seventeen grand children, twenty-three great grandchildren and 14 great-great grandchildren. Four generations survive her. Also an adopted daughter Mrs. Violet Shelley of Owen whom she brought up.

Mrs. Chapman was a hard worker Christian Mother, loved by her family and respected by all who knew her. She did her full duty at all times, as she saw it through her long and useful life.

The funeral services were held Tuesday last at the M.E. Church and were largely attended. Interrned [sic] at the farm where the loved ones who had gone before were buried. Rev. Fleming, officiating.

Card of Thanks -

We desire to thank all the kind neighbors and friends for their many kind actions during the last illness and funeral of our beloved mother:
