French physician, surgeon co-founding the discipline of Nephrology medicine, which relates to the study of the kidneys and founder of the International Society of Nephrology. Together with Rene Kuss they defined the precise methods and rules for renal transplantation surgery. Although kidney transplants were performed before the failure rate was high. Many rejections caused by many different factors. In 1952 at Necker Hospital in Paris, France - Hamburger performed the first successful renal transplant in France between living people on a teenager who had damaged his one and only functioning organ and given a kidney by the teenager's mother. The organ failed but after rejection was starved off for three weeks, a record of the times in France. In 1955 Hamburger created the first artificial kidney. It wasn't until 1962 that Hamburger performed the first successful transplant between two non-related persons. His group performed the first successful transplant from a cadaver a year later. Hamburger married to Annette Haas, a French concert pianist. They had three sons of which one is Michel Berger, French singer-songwriter and composer of Starmania. Dr. Jean Hamburger in Paris, France died at Necker Hospital from complications after heart surgery.
