MT. VERNON, Mo. — Earl Ree Chastain, 87, died at 5:03 p.m. Saturday, May 17, 2003, at his home after an illness. Mr. Chastain was born Nov. 21, 1915, at Laclede County to Wilford Valentine and Minnie Starks Chastain. He was a carpenter by trade and lived most of his life in the Lawrence County area. He had been a member of the Northside Baptist Church since 1995. He married Ruth Patton on March 2, 1940, in Miller, and she survives. Additional survivors include six daughters, Dorothy Anderson, Carthage, Lucille Bowers and husband Jimmie, Mt. Vernon, Bernice Linder and husband Jackie, Reeds, Kathy Rickets and husband Brent, Arlene Huse; one son, Lloyd Pat Chastain, Nevada; one sister, Effie Pennington, Miller; 21 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Larry Chastain; a daughter, Linda Marie Chastain Hill; two great-grandsons, Thomas "Tom Tom" Hull III and Kaden Charles Gates Davis; two brothers, Allen and Eddie Chastain; two sisters, Oma Morris and Edna Pennington. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 21 in the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home, Mt. Vernon, with the Rev. Eldon King officiating. Burial will be in Miller Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. tonight at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's-Dementia Association in care of the funeral home.
