It has been said that “only the good die young”. When it comes to our loss of Casey, I realize that this statement could never be more true. Casey was a son, a grandson, a nephew, a cousin, a brother, Uncle and a friend. These names don’t do him enough justice, he means so much to us all. He loved each and every one of us, and always made sure that we knew. He knew that we all loved him, and I believe that is what kept him going strong. Casey was the life of the party, and he loved to make people laugh. He was filled with wisdom, which is why many turned to him for advice. He was a counselor, a voice of reason, and always knew the right things to say to make people feel better.

I will be forever grateful and proud to be able to say that I was raised along the side of Casey. Life will never be the same, and I know that I speak for everyone when I say that I will never stop missing him. As much as we all wish he was still here and feel that he left us too soon, we can all find comfort in knowing that he is no longer suffering. There is no doubt in my mind that Casey is now in heaven, telling jokes to Jesus.

“Those we love don’t go away. They walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near. Still loved, still missed, and very dear. Death leaves a heart ache that no one can heal, but love leaves a memory that no one can steal. “

May you rest in peace, Casey Allen Jones. Forever missed, and forever loved.

Love, Melissa

This past Sunday Cheryll and I lost our nephew Casey from natural causes at a young age. Our hearts are shattered and our thoughts and prayers are with those who knew and loved him, especially to his mother Cindy.

Early on Casey was a big part of our lives. He was just a year old when Cheryll and I met. Cheryll loved him, as one does her own. And he spent many a weekend with the Cotten Family. He was an easy child to care for and good to have around for the most part, but like any boy he was curious and got into his share of stuff, but our home was his home.

Melissa and Casey grew up together, forming a pretty special bond that lasted. Into adulthood they stayed constant contact. Melissa trusted him with the lives of her own kids. Casey would often come and help her when he could. Tommy and Natalie loved Casey, he had a way relating with children and would play with them as if he was one of them.

Jeffrey and Casey had their own relationship as well. Jeffrey is different to say the least, and as many of you know he can be difficult, but, even before Jeffrey was diagnosed with Autism, Casey was patient with Jeffrey. Casey and Jeffrey formed their own kind of relationship. They liked to share, games, books and movies with each other. Their compassion for certain things was beyond me, but it kept them in constant contact with each other.

Casey’s relationship with our children was more that of brothers and sisters.

As the years rolled by, Casey was a common fixture in our home, often spending whole weekends with us, and in the summer months, sometimes he spent weeks with us. I laugh now but sometimes I’d say to Cheryll; “ is that kid ever going home.” Her answer was always, “he’s no trouble.” Like I said Cheryll loved him as her own. It is going to take some getting used to him not being around anymore.

There was more to Casey than met the eye. As he matured He read a lot and kept his thoughts in books. I think he was smarter than he gave himself credit for. Often in conversation he’d surprise me with some nugget of knowledge. Casey had a good nature, and had a good heart. He was considerate and always kept in touch with his family. Cheryll said he could make her laugh and could be the voice of reason at times.

I’m going to leave it at this: I like to think that Casey gave of his heart until there was none left to give, and his heart just gave out. It is true the good die young.

Love you kid, thanks for the memories,
Uncle Rick
