Mr. Fulenwider came to Rowan County, NC from Switzerland. He later settled in Lincoln County, NC. He was a Revolutionary War patriot, fighting at both the Battles of Ramseur Mill and Kings Mountain. Lincoln County was rich in iron ore, and Mr. Fulenwider started the High Shoals Iron Works located in what is now High Shoals, Gaston County, NC, although at the time this was located in Lincoln County, as well as another near Maiden, NC. He furnished the government with cannon balls during the War of 1812. At the time of his death, he owned more than 20,000 acres.
He married, Elisabeth Ellis, aunt of NC Governor, John W. Ellis. They had 8 children (other sources have 10) Grave located on old US 321.
