Cayce, SC – Betty G. Cromer, 79, passed away Monday, October 26, 2015. She was born May 4, 1936 in Newberry, SC to the late Colie and Azalie Childress Graddick. She is preceded in death by her son, Jackie V. Cromer, brother, Bobby Graddick and her parents.

She was a graduate of Newberry High School and Columbia Hospital School of Nursing in 1957. As a Registered Nurse she started working at Providence Hospital in Charlotte, NC and later moved back to Columbia Hospital. In the early 1970's she was hired as the first head nurse of OB/GYN and Women's Surgery at the New Lexington County Hospital (Lexington Medical Center). She continued to work there until in 1989 when she had to retire because of her C.M.T (Charcot–Marie–Tooth) disease. She was known at the hospital as "B.C." Betty was known to her husband Gerald as "Momma" and "Nanny" for the rest of the family. She was a member of Grace Chapel where she taught Sunday school for many years. When absent from church due to her health, she would write out the entire lesson for a church member to fill in for her. She enjoyed reading her bible verses every morning and wore out several Bibles throughout the years. Early in life, she enjoyed the camping trips and the Salmon fishing trips with the family. In her later years she became an Amateur Radio Operator "HAM" with WB4WOK being her inherited call sign from her deceased son. She also took courses in Calligraphy, Spanish and Flower Arranging. She also helped an adult friend to learn to read and write. She loved her son and grandchildren. She always provided a hot meal to her family. She was the backbone of her family and her faith never wavered. Betty would have been married to Gerald for 58 years on November 2, 2015.

She is survived by her husband, Gerald S. Cromer of Cayce; son, Stephen & Tina Cromer of West Columbia; granddaughters, Denise and Angela Cromer and her sister, Mary West of Aiken.
