ALBRIGHT, Frederick Luther ''' age 100, passed away Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at Genesys Convalescent Center in Grand Blanc. Per his wishes cremation has taken place. Fred was born September 1, 1914 in Athens, OH to the late Enos and Wilda (Beauman) Albright. He spent his early years in Ohio and Kentucky. Later he moved to California, where he graduated from high school in Los Angeles. He was industrious in his youth and worked in a tomato cannery, at a dog food factory, and had a milk delivery route. Later he traveled to Washington State working in an apple orchard. Eventually, Fred returned to Ohio, and landed a railroad job and became a licensed barber. While working in Toledo, Fred met June Munson. They were married on October 19, 1940 and were blessed with two children. During WWII, Fred enlisted and served in the Navy for 3 and ½ years. He was assigned to the 4th Beach Battalion in the Amphibious Force. He was involved in the successful invasions of Sicily, Salerno, Italy, and Southern France. Fred worked for 35 years for the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad, now known as CSX Corp. He was a locomotive engineer for most of those years. Upon retirement in 1975, Fred and June retired to Englewood, FL where they attended Englewood United Methodist Church. They made many friends and enjoyed life as they served in this church. He played golf, enjoyed playing cards, and was also active in the Elks and Masonic Lodge. June and Fred moved up north to MI to live near family in 1998. Sadly, June passed away about a year later on June 10, 1999. As an 85 year old widower, Fred became active at the Grand Blanc Senior Center. There he was pleased to meet Clara Elwell. They enjoyed one another's company and were married February 23, 2000. Early in their marriage, they moved to Davison and did some traveling. In all, they were glad to share 15 and ½ years together. Fred was preceded in death by his parents; first wife June, son; Bruce, and many, many friends. Fred will be missed by his family who enjoyed his quick humor and his many stories of the adventures and challenges he faced over his long life.
