Ethel Whitfield, 89, of Amarillo died Sunday, Aug. 20, 2006.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Whitfield was born Ethel Margaret Carter on Nov. 25, 1916, in Quay County, N.M. She attended West Texas State University and graduated in 1938 with a business education degree. She married C.G. "Glenn" Whitfield on Oct. 22, 1939.

A resident in Amarillo for most of her adult life, she was a homemaker. Besides being devoted to her family, she enjoyed her volunteer work with the Northwest Texas Hospital Auxiliary and First Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Mildred Carroll Circle. Ethel was a loving mother, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She greatly appreciated all the attention shown her these last few months by her caregivers that include Iris, Lisa, Corina, Barbara, Liz, the staff of Odyssey Hospice and her very special niece, Bobbie Broussard, of Baton Rouge, La.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 2002; and an infant son, Ronald, in 1940.

Survivors include a son, Michael and wife Nadia of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a daughter, Debra Burton and husband David; a grandson, Nathan Burton; a granddaughter, Sarah Cline and husband Matthew; two great-grandchildren, Daisy and Jacob Burton of Amarillo; and numerous nieces and nephews; all were very dear to her heart.

The family suggests memorials be to First Presbyterian Church, 1100 S. Harrison St., Amarillo, TX 79101.

The family will be at 103 Parkview Drive.
