Victoria N. Ackall passed away this Easter Sunday evening in Lexington with her family at her side. She was born on February 26th, 1920 in Ramallah, Palestine to parents Mousa Ackall and Zarifeh. Victoria was one of two children raised up and nurtured to be gentle, kind and loving. She attended Quakers Friends Girls School in Ramallah and graduated in 1939. After graduation from school, along with her parents and sister, she moved to the United States where she attended Transylvania College in the early 1940's. In 1946, she went back to Ramallah to be married to her cousin Naser, whom she was betrothed to since childhood according to the Ramallah traditions. They lived in Ramallah and had five children. She was active member and founder of a couple of prominent charities in Ramallah, Infant Welfare and the Ramallah Embroidery Cooperative reviving the heritage of needle embroidery of Ramallah. Victoria moved back to Kentucky in 1980 to join her father Mousa Ackall after her husband died in 1976 in Ramallah. She was happy to return to her old town of Lexington and relished the quiet ambiance of the town. She joined the local Senior Club and was happy to congregate with her friends, Arab and American. She was always a caring mother and grandmother to her children and grandchildren. For pastime, she loved to bake homemade bread, knit sweaters and blankets. An avid reader who kept up with current events and made sure she voted during election season. Until shortly after her 95th birthday, she lived a rich life. She passed on peacefully surrounded by the loving care of her family and friends. Victoria is survived by her five children, Issa Ackall (Helen Ackall), Aida Ackall, Sylvia Shunnarah (Terry Shunnarah), Afaf Ackall and Serene Ackall (Fulton Varner); her sister Mary Khayat; 7 grandchildren, Naser, Mousa, Andrew, Deena, Christina, Camille and Jessica. She was blessed to see and meet her five great-grandchildren. Visitation at Milward Funeral Home 1509 Trent Blvd, Lexington, on Thursday from 6 to 8pm. The funeral will be held at Central Christian Church, 219 East Short Street, Friday at 12 noon. Burial will follow in Lexington Cemetery. www.milwardfuneral.com
