Mom was born and raised on a farm in Arlington, Nebraska. Even though her dad was a farmer, she never really liked living on the farm. I always think of my grandmother Siercks, mom's mother, as a "Thoroughly Modern Millie". She dressed her girls very well and when they moved to town in Fremont, she set up their new home with the latest in furnishings. My mom once told me one of her favorite childhood memories was falling asleep on the couch, while listening to the clicking of the dust mop and grandma humming as she dusted the wooden floors.
Gerry graduated from Fremont High School in 1944 and married her high school beau, my dad, Bob Hutchinson on August 5, 1944. They made an awfully cute couple and were in love for many years. Sadly they grew apart and after their daughters were grown and had left home, they divorced. Neither remarried and they left Kristy and me just 3 months and 25 days apart.
Mom had a long career with R.L. Polk Publishing Co. as a district manager. She was an excellent sales person. The job required travel throughout the Pacific Northwest and she grew to love it so much, that in 1992 she retired in Vancouver, Washington. She had a knack for decorating and her little house was lovely. Mom loved the Lord and often shared that with complete strangers, hoping to help them find salvation. She was an accomplished seamstress, an avid sports enthusiast and supported the National Wild Life Foundation.
She was passionate in her love for her family and the Lord, and attended church regularly until her health prevented.
Once she found a picture of a rustic bird feeder in a magazine and asked her grandson, Matt to build it for her flower garden. He did, and she was ecstatic!
Tinker and Tooker were her adopted stray kittens and being so far from her family, they kept her company.
Kristy and I miss her wisdom and love, and being able to pick up the phone to call with our joys and problems. My one fear, she didn't know just how much I loved her.......
She was outside trimming bushes because I was coming to visit, and she wanted everything perfect. The neighbor saw her and told her he would finish, and to go inside.
By early the next morning, she had to call emergency rescue. She was hospitalized because she had developed pneumonia. The night before she passed, I spoke to her on the phone and she said the hospital would probably release her the next day. I asked her to call when she got home, told her I loved her, and we hung up. That was the last time I spoke to my Mom.
She would have been so happy to know both her grandkids, and both her daughters were there to bid her good bye.
Mom was preceded in death by her parents Leo G. & Annie (Victor) Siercks; sisters: Eleanor Appleby (Mrs. Byron), Lois Jorgensen (Mrs. Edwin), and Adeline Kolbo (Mrs. Beltrand).

She is survived by daughters Cheryl Mueller and Kristy Ellis; grandchildren Matthew Mueller (Candice White), and Kelly Ellis; great grandchildren Jacob Lee Mueller, Noe and Mary Kota and brother Lloyd Siercks (now deceased)
