Dan grew up in a large family in northern Virginia. He graduated from Bishop Ireton High School in Alexandria, VA. Afterwards he went on Virginia Tech, where he was a triple major. While there, he also continued to nurture his love of music---and chess, playing playing first board on Tech's nationally ranked chess team. He married after college and before long they had four children. One, his beloved daughter, Becky, died in 2013.
Dan's faith remained the centerpiece of his life. He was very involved in RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults). He was always so devoted to the Catholic Church.
