Harry Welford "Pete" Snead, 96, of West Deer, died Tuesday, April 11, 2006, in Rebecca Residence, West Deer. Born July 8, 1909, in Hot Springs, Va., he was a son of the late Harry and Laura (Dudley) Snead. Mr. Snead was a golf pro for Cascades of Homestead Resort in Hot Springs, Va.; Blairmont Country Club in Hollidaysburg; and Pittsburgh Field Club (1950-1955 and 1963-1972). He was given honorary membership to the Pittsburgh Field Club upon his retirement in 1972. He continued to teach at Pine Creek Range, Allison Park, and Rose Ridge Golf Course, West Deer. Mr. Snead's career as a golf pro spanned 77 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lucille (Burns) Snead; two grandchildren; brothers, Lyle, Homer, Edward, Jesse and Sam Snead; and a sister, Janet Steinsping. He is survived by a son, Richard "Bud" (Laura) Snead, of West Deer; four daughters, Bettye (Lee) Bowen-Dorn, of Tallahassee, Fla., Delores Creek, of West Deer, Patricia (Carl) Unterholzner, of West Deer, and Susan Snead, of Springdale; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. Friends are being received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the ADAM SIEMIANOWSKI FUNERAL HOME, Starr Road, Russellton, West Deer. Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in the funeral home by Pastor Barry Murray, of Calvary Baptist Church. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park, Indiana Township.
