Francis was a son of Frank Russel and Caroline Friblon Standish and was a direct descendant of Myles Standish. Francis owned and operated the South Bristol General Store for many years, was Town Supervisor. He was a staunch Democrat and was a member of the Maxfield Hose Fire Co. He married Virginia Mays/Ernhardt Flint. They had two children: Herbert and Lynda.
