Son of John Elijah Rhea and Lucy Anderson. Brother of Celia, Elizabeth Ann, James Anderson, George, Abijah, Jesse, John C., Robert, Sarah C., and Lafayette Rhea.

Husband of Mary Jarvis (2nd Wife).

Sterling served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War and was wounded when hit in the mouth with a pumpkin ball. Of about 16 young men who were conscripted into the CSA, only Sterling and one other survived (Thanks to Don Rhea for info).

He died as a result of old age and spinal trimble.
