She came from a prominent family who founded the Clooney Shipyard in the 1870's and the Clooney Construction & Towing Company in 1909. Betty attended Austin Community College, where she received an Associate Degree.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 60 years, Vernal Bracken; their sons, Lee Bracken and wife Emma, George Bracken and wife Jill, Mike Bracken and wife Carla, and Mark Bracken and wife Donna; their daughters, Janet Jones and husband Terry, and Sharon Conable and husband Keith; her sisters, Dorothy Kerr, Elaine Whitehead and husband Jimmy, and Nan Edwards and husband Pat; 11 grandchildren, Greg, Jennifer, Sean, Matthew, Samantha, Patrick, David, Rebecca, Daniel, Stephen, and Taylor; two great- grandchildren, Aidan and Lauren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
She will be remembered for the love she shared with her family, her humility, the strength of her faith and her grace in meeting life's challenges. She was an elegant woman who enjoyed all of life's many blessings. We all love you very much and you will live in our hearts forever. We pray God will unite us in his love in the Kingdom of Heaven.
Service Thursday, October 12, 2006, 12:00 noon Porter Loring North Chapel. The Rev. Charles Woehler and Bishop Douglas Young officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
