Joseph George Gray, age 89, of Oakham, Mass., formerly of Quaker Farms Road, Oxford, entered into peaceful rest on Monday, November 29, 2004, at the UMASS Medical Center, Worcester, Mass. He was the beloved husband of Alice (Treat) Gray. Mr. Gray was born on June 30, 1915, in Ansonia. He was raised in Ansonia, and graduated from Ansonia High School, where he played on the football team. Joseph resided in Oxford for most of his life before moving to Oakham one year ago. He was a communicant, a choir member and usher of Christ Church, Quaker Farms, and was a retired metallurgist from the Anaconda American Brass Co., of Ansonia, where he was employed for 45 years. Mr. Gray was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army. His many accomplishments include, past president of the Oxford PTA, a Jamboree director and Scout leader for the Housatonic Council Boy Scouts of America, past president of the Seymour-Oxford Babe Ruth Baseball League and a volunteer firefighter with the Quaker Farms Fire Co. He received the Golden Sheaf as a 50-Year member of the Oxford Grange #194. Joseph also served in the National Guard, which he joined at age 18, which preceded his wartime service. Mr. Gray was an avid fisherman and enjoyed being a sponsor and devoted fan of the Ansonia High School football team.
