Ireland Adkins, 88 of Raccoon, KY passed away Thursday May 5, 2016 at his residence.
He was born October 30, 1927 in Pike County, KY to the late Jim & Mary Dixie “Collins” Adkins.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife of 50 years, Opal “Slone” Adkins, one son Russell Adkins, one grandchild Tabitha Varney, one sister Maria (Bessie) Dennis.
Ireland is survived by his loving wife of seventeen years, Kathleen “West” Adkins sons; Ronald Dean (Jodi) Adkins, Harold Gene (Deanna) Adkins, Michael (Charlotte) Adkins, Tony (Kathy) Adkins, daughters; Phyllis (Johnny ) Smith, Sue (Johnny ) Thompson, Bonnie Lou (Arnold) May, Mitzi (Sam) Rowe, Mary (Mark) Brown, Doreen (Jeff) Compton, Marquetta (Chris) Thacker, Betty (Scott) Mullins, three step-children; Karen Ratliff, Roger (Pam) West, John Paul (Claire) West, one sister, Lurlie Tetzlaff, thirty four grandchildren & forty great-grandchildren.
He was truly a blessed man.
He was a son, husband, dad, papaw, Deacon, coal miner & friend.
He supported his family working in the coal mines for many years & a deacon at the Louisa Primitive Baptist Church.
He will be forever loved and missed.
The family will accept friends at the Raccoon Primitive Baptist Church Friday 6PM May 6, 2016 & Saturday May 7, 2016 with services each night at 7PM with Primitive Baptist ministers officiating. Funeral services will be Sunday May 8, 2016 at 2:00 PM and burial will follow at the Annie E. Young Cemetery at Pikeville, KY.
