Born the 11th child of Reverend Ollie and Mary Magdalene (Woods) McGee, it has repeatedly been said that Rebecca was an unusually beautiful baby. That she looked like the Legendary Lena Horne at birth. She was reared on her maternal grandfather's, Alonzo L. Woods land on Stewart's Ridge Road near the Yazoo River. She grew into a beautiful six-foot tall modelesque woman with a big heart and quiet spirit.

Rebecca accepted Christ at a young age, under the tutelage of Reverend C.H. Jones at Tobeka M.B. Church. After graduating from Yazoo City Training School in 1965, she went north to Pontiac, Michigan to live with her older sister Helen Jean. She worked at the local K-Mart store as a cashier and saved her money for college. She returned to Mississippi and attended Coahoma Junior College in Clarksdale. She graduated in 1969 with an Associate of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education.
While attending Coahoma, she met and married a young man from Louise, MS named Edgar Taylor. To this union 2 sons and a set of twin daughters were born.

When the twins were roughly 18 months old, the young family relocated to Flint, Michigan where Rebecca had been a resident for 43 years. She raised her children at Foss Avenue Baptist Church under the tutelage of Rev. Avery Aldridge. After her children grew up and her marriage dissolved, she changed her church home and established bonds with the new pastors in her life. The first church family Vernon Chapel A.M.E- Rev. Darryl Williams and the second was First Timothy Church- Pastor Willie Ruth Moore. Her church home when she passed was Word of Life Christian Center- Pastor George Wilkinson.

Rebecca was creative and easily made something out of nothing, especially in the area of Interior Design. Everyone who ever stepped into her home felt obligated to take off their shoes because of the beauty of her home. She was spiritually and poetically talented. Her self-appointed title was 'Poetic Messenger' and she regularly wrote biblically based poems for the morning conference call Bible study called 'Morning Manna,' hosted by Word of Life Christian Center. Attendees regularly boasted of how convicted they were by the messages delivered through her poetry. She had just completed her first book of poetry when she passed and was on the verge of submitting her manuscript to publishers. She was a natural at hospitality; Martha Stewart could've learned a few things from her. She regularly welcomed people into her home and loved to cook for folks. And yes, she died with her world renowned Banana Pudding Recipe. Not even her daughters have it!

At the time of her passing, she left her 3 adult children, 7 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, 5 sisters, 2 brothers, 1 god-daughter and 4 very close friends, to cherish her memory and influence.

She was preceded in death by her infant son Edgar E. Taylor Jr., her parents, 6 siblings, 4 nieces and 3 nephews.
