FAMILY OF THOMAS JACKSON CHRISTY

Thomas Jackson Christy was born in Athens, Ga., the son of John Harrison and Aurelia Roberts Christy. His father served two terms as Representative in Washington from his district. When John H. Christy married Aurelia Roberts, from Asheville, Andrew Johnson, who later became President, had a tailoring shop in Greeneville, Tenn., and made his wedding suit.

Thomas Jackson and his brother Rufus came to Franklin where they started The Franklin Press.

While living in Franklin, he met and married Cora Bryson, the daughter of James Holmes and Cornelia Siler. Thomas had the first newspaper in Andrews, The Andrews Sun. The children of Tom and Cora were:

Cornelia was born in Dillsboro. She later married Kenneth Peters who taught at R.J. Reynolds High School in Winston-Salem. They had one daughter Christy who married Glenn Campbell from Winston-Salem.

John Holmes was born in Athens, Ga. After the family came to Andrews in 1909, he never wanted to go any further than Snowbird. He served on many civic and religious boards, was manager of the Nantahala Power & Light Co. from 1934-1959. John married Mary Willie Fisher and they had two sons, John, Jr., who married Joan Crowder, and Robert Harold who married Peggy Bounds. John, Jr., is a Methodist minister, and they have three sons and one daughter. Robert and Peggy have three sons. Bob is employed by Cannon Manufacturing Co., and they live in Kannapolis, N.C.

Harold Swain was born in Jackson County. He served in Troop D, which was organized and went from Andrews in World War I; so did his brother John. Harold was an invalid from World War I and lived in Andrews until his death in 1968.

Ralph died when he was eleven years old.

Aurelia Ann was born in Waynesville. After living and teaching in Virginia for several years, she married Paul Jordan and moved to California. They came to Andrews in 1942. Paul died in 1976. Their son Edwin married Sara Ann Lange and they live in Wilmington, NC. They had three sons.

Gladys Harriet was born in Waynesville. After living in Virginia for 20 years, the family moved back to Andrews. Gladys never married and kept house for an invalid brother and mother. She died in 1966.

Mary Ellen Jean was born in Waynesville. After teaching in Virginia for several years, she came back to Andrews where she taught until she retired. She served on the Library, Housing, and Zoning Boards and is active in the Methodist Church.

William Rogers Christy was born in the Saunook Community in Haywood County. He lived in Virginia for several years. He settled in Winston-Salem where he was a linotype operator until he retired. Rogers married Lela Gordon and they had two sons. William is connected with V.P.I. in Blacksburg, Va., and Tom who is employed by Eastman Kodak Co., in Atlanta, Ga.
