Mildred H. Alford, a resident of Muscatine Lutheran Home, Muscatine, Iowa, formerly of Bettendorf, died Friday, Nov. 16, 2001, at the care center. No services or visitation will be held. Services are under the direction of Bentley Funeral Home, Wilton, Iowa.
Mildred H. Meier was born Sept. 14, 1913, in Redwing, Minn., to Emil and Minnie Meier. She married Vernon Alford in 1932 in Davenport.
She worked in the payroll department at Rock Island Arsenal. She re-tired in 1980. Before that, she worked at the Army Corps of Engineers at the Arsenal. Mildred enjoyed dancing, bicycling and traveling.
Survivors include a daughter, Merry (Mrs. Thomas) Howell, Moscow, Iowa; a son, Kenneth "Smokey" (and wife, Bobbi Jo) Alford, Las Cruces, N.M.; granddaughters, Holly Alford, Julie Mullen Tharp and April Howell; grandsons, Eric Alford and Tim Mullen; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and a sister.
