He was born December 18, 1918 near Sigourney, to Henry William and Anna Nauman Bruns. He graduated from Sigourney High School. On January 24, 1941, he married LaVera Cecilia Flander in Sigourney. They lived and farmed east of Sigourney and moved into town in 1977. Raymond drove truck for Ralph Bruns and worked at the Sale Barn. He was a former member of the Saddle Club, the Izaak Walton, and the Lancaster Christian Church. Raymond and LaVera spent many winters in Texas with the Snowbirds.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife.
He is survived by four daughters, Marcella Redlinger of Sigourney, Beverly (Clair) Kinkade of What Cheer, Barbara (Allen) Raplinger of Cedar Rapids, Lorinda Kool and friend Gary Williams of Ely, two sons Gary (Connie) Bruns and Scott Bruns and friend Becky Newman all of Oskaloosa, 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
