Joseph's mother was Louisa Jane INGLE. His father is UNKNOWN. The 1860 Census record shows his mother listed as "Jane Ingle" (age 21), along with her young son (Joseph) listed as "Wesley Ingle" (age 2). They were living in Sevier County, TN in the home of Louisa Jane's parents, John Ingle (age 61), and Caroline Ingle (age 43), along with Jane's 6 siblings + little Mary Ingle, 4 month old infant daughter of her unmarried sister, Sarah Ingle (age 20). When Joseph was 4 years old in 1862, his mother, Louisa Jane Ingle, then 26 years old, married Claiborne Baker, a 48 year old widower with several children still living at home with him. The 1870 and 1880 census records in Sevier County have Joseph Wesley Ingle identified as "Joseph Baker". In the 1880 census when Joseph, who was married by then to Nancy Ann (Knight), and had his 1st child, Harrison, all 3 were listed with the surname of Baker. But in the following extant Census record of 1900, it clearly shows that Joseph Wesley Ingle and his wife Nancy A. and their family of 8 children were identified using Joseph's real surname of INGLE. From that point in time until his death in 1919, Joseph Wesley (J.W.) Ingle always was recorded with his correct surname. Info from Find A Grave member Jennifer Shepherd.
