May 11, 1945 — July 31, 2016

Donald Francis Andersen, 71, passed away peacefully at the VA Hospital in Seattle on July 31, 2016. He had been living with renal disease for several years and was only recently diagnosed with liver cancer.

Don was born May 11, 1945, in Lebanon. He attended Fairview Elementary and graduated from Lebanon High School. He attended business school at Santa Barbara Community College to learn bookkeeping and accounting. He then joined the army as a 1st Lieutenant and served for two years, and was a reservist for one year. When he left the military he entered the hotel industry and worked for a few years in Oslo, Norway, and several years in Bangkok, Thailand. He returned to the states and took a job in Kansas City, Missouri, and worked there until taking a job in the Seattle area and settling down. In 1990 he decided to stop working for others and opened his own accounting business “Andersen’s Accounting Service.” He worked out of his home and enjoyed the freedom it gave him. In his free time Don enjoyed cooking, gardening, and collecting art glass from all around the world.

Don was preceded in passing by his mother, Juanita Andersen (Kau), and father Chester “Chet” Andersen.

Don is survived by his partner of 26 years and spouse of just less than two years, Matthew St. Clair. Over the years they grew a love of cooking and became foodies. They also started a side business together buying and selling art glass. They were quickly known as “the Glass Guys” at all of the sales, shows and auctions they attended together. Don loved having a garden and Matt grew to love it also. They were always together and truly shared a special bond.

Don is also survived by his aunt, Dorothy Park (Andersen) of Milwaukie; and cousins David Andersen of St. Helens and Barbara Wolf (Andersen) of Enterprise. He also has many relatives around the Lebanon area: aunts Marion Barnts, and Janet Bivins (Kau) and husband Henry Bivins; and his uncles, John Kau and wife Rose Kau, and Ace Kau.

Don was a wonderful joyful man and will always be in our hearts forever.

As Don wished we are having a simple service at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 26, at the IOOF Cemetery in Lebanon, where he will be placed next to his father.
