Leroy served in the Army National Guard Reserve between 1957-1959. After serving with the National Guard, Leroy was called to work at General Motors where he worked for 31 years.
Leroy had a passion for basset hounds and bred and sold more than 100 puppies. If he wasn't with the bassets, you could find him outside in the garden tending to tomatoes, grapes, fruit trees--the man could grow anything! But most important in his life, was his dedication to his loving wife, Judy, and their love for the great northern Michigan and Lake Superior.
Leroy is preceded in death by his parents, Sarah Louise (Laflin) and Leonard Wilson Beckett and his brother, Larry Beckett.
He leaves his wife of 60 years, Judy (Markham) Beckett; two daughters, Marcia Burton and Wendy Murdock (Beckett) and her husband, Rex Murdock; and two sons, Marty and his wife, Michelle (Hardin) Beckett and Brad Beckett; four grandsons: Dylan and Dustin Beckett, Matthew Burton and Christopher Riney; and one granddaughter, Carlie Murdock.
A private ceremony will be held by family members with Leroy's final resting place on the shores of Lake Superior.
