Billie Claire Chapman, age 64, passed away unexpectedly on January 28, 2017. A Graveside Service was held on January 31, 2017, in Woodlawn Cemetery. Claire was born in Perry, graduated from Perry High School in 1970, and went to Andrew College and LaGrange College. She received a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education, and 2 Master's Degrees. An educator most of her adult life, she worked for Houston County Board of Education, then chose to work as a Private Tutor for special needs children in her community. It was her passion to teach learning disabled children to read. As any classic teacher does, she spent most of the money she earned on more supplies and reading materials for her students. Claire also loved genealogy, and spent many hours with her friends Carolyn Lawson and Lynne Harlow researching the Chapman family. Together, they visited many museums and genealogy libraries working to find the oldest and most historical members of their families. She collected many documents and made several wonderful books showcasing her findings of the Chapman family. Claire enjoyed playing the piano. She was very good at playing from sheet music, but she was also notorious with her friends and family for writing her own music and performing whenever someone would be her audience. She was preceded in death by her mother, Aileene Dent Chapman. Survivors include her father, Bill Chapman of Perry; her sisters, Lane Chapman (Vern Jarvis) of Atlanta, and Angela Gillman (John) of Perry; her niece, Stephanie Griffin (Scott); her nephew, Jameson Stocks (Julie Howard); 2 great-nieces; and several extended family members.
