At 16, Jewell left the family farm for a wider world where she gained her qualification as a beautician, a profession she had the skills and excellent taste for and a sweet disposition and friendly nature that endeared her to her clients. In the nearby town of Moultrie she met a tall, handsome upcoming young man, Thomas Hardy Wilson. They fell in love, courted and married. The young couple moved to Atlanta where they started a general contracting business and a family consisting of a beautiful daughter, Dana Jewell, and two sons, Thomas Mabrey and William Delano "Billy", now known as Scott Wilson, who is married to Heavenly and resides in California. Scott is an accomplished and much beloved actor with more than 70 films and television programs to his credit.

In Atlanta, Jewell was much engaged in community activities and for several years President of the Woodman Circle of the World. In addition to being the mother of three active young children she had an indispensable role in the management of her husband’s contracting business. Upon the death of her husband, Jewell moved her young family to Thomasville to be closer to her parents and brothers and their families. Here she met and married Hugh Dorsey McMickle who had two daughters, Nancy Reichert and Pam Greco. Jewell and Dorsey were active members of the First Baptist Church and enjoyed the fellowship of the many friends they made while engaging regularly in church activities. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
