Barbara Kientz was born in July 1919 in Oakland, Calif., and passed away Sept. 5, 2016, in Wickenburg.
She is survived by her three sons Roger, Mel and Edward; granddaughters Heidi, Jessica, Tamala and Tracy; grandsons Erik, Bobby, Darryld, Matt and Troy.
Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, she graduated from Oakland High School and worked part time for her father, Rollie Nawman, founder of Benner-Nawman, Inc. She took her higher education courses in Stockton, Calif., at what is now the University of the Pacific. Here she met and fell in love with one of Amos Alonzo Stagg's star football players, Robert Kientz. Married in 1942, she followed him through his military career as a Navy pilot through WWII.
After the war they moved back to the San Francisco Bay area to start a family, and Robert went to work for her father. In the years following they became the major stockholders of the corporation and raised three boys. Following Robert's death in 1987 Barbara became the secretary of the corporation, headquartered in Wickenburg since 2001.
Barbara had several passions in life, her family, Benner-Nawman (the company), the arts, gourmet cooking, bridge and whoever she happened to be talking to at any particular minute. She will be missed by many.
A celebration of life gathering will take place at the Wickenburg Country Club, Thursday, Sept. 15 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, friends might make a donation to one of three Wickenburg non-profits that were so meaningful to her: the Wickenburg Children's Cultural Organization (The Little Red School House), the Del E. Webb Center for the Performing Arts, and the Desert Caballeros Western Museum.
