Mourning Richardson and her twin sister Anna were born on 26 April 1794, in Greenville, South Carolina, their father, Mathias, was 44 and their mother, Frances, was 41. She married Benjamin Tarrant on 26 December 1815, in Pendleton, South Carolina. They had eight children in 15 years. She died in September 1866 in Birmingham, Alabama, at the age of 72.
