Richard Spalding Wathen's father was Samuel Spalding Wathen (1902-82), first son of Frank (1874-1948) and Martha Beatrice Pope Wathen (1880-1966). He was a large farm owner near Henderson and Greenville, Ky. and owned a grain elevator. He married in 1926, Margaret Melissa Richardson (1904-86), daughter of James William (1870-1947) and Anna Charsilla Thomas Richardson (1872-1963), of Owensboro. Their ten children were Richard Spalding (1926-2008), Robert Louis (1928-2015), Helen Anne (1930-2012), John Hamilton (1931-), Rev. James Francis (1932-2006), Mary Carol (1933-2007), Margaret (b.1935), Joseph (1937), Samuel Thomas, and William Patrick Wathen.
Richard Spalding Wathen died October 1, 2008, and his ashes are in Tampa, Fla. His (1) wife, Jeanne M. Lancaster, died November 16, 2003 and is buried in Fernwood Cemetery, Henderson.
