John Adoph Emil Eberson was born in Cernauti, Bukovina, a region of Austria, in 1875. After studying technical engineering at the University of Vienna, he emigrated to the United States in 1901, settling in St. Louis. He is best known as the architect of the "atmospheric" theatre, and designed several of them throughout the United States, the first one in Houston TX, in 1923.

In 1926, after a number of commissions with the Loew's Theater chain, he moved the office to New York, and in 1928 his son Drew joined the firm. During the 1930's and 1940's the theaters took on an Art Deco design.

John Eberson passed away after a long illness in March of 1954. His son Drew continued the firm under the father and son name until the early 1970's.

John married Beatrice Salina Lamb in 1903. He was the father of son Drew (who passed in 1989 at the age of 85), and daughters, Elsa Brassert Kyle, and Lora Mohr.
