James E. Dinkins, Sr, was the true epitome of a "Man of God".

On July 1, 1935, God blessed Doss E. and Lara K. Dinkins with a baby boy they named James Edward Dinkins, affectionately known as "Bruh". He was a father, and encourager[sic], an exemplary pillar of strength, dignity, courage and humility. On Saturday, June 17, 2017, he departed this earth and peacefully went on to glory.

James received his early education from Houston County Training School. He furthered his academics at The Fort Valley State College (University) for his undergraduate and graduate studies. He received the Master of Science degree in Middle Grades Education and another in Guidance and Counseling. He also received the Educational Specialist degree from the University of Georgia. He served as a teacher and an assistant principal. After retiring, he served as a substitute teacher. Every student with whom he came into contact, he left an impact and touched their lives. James also served in the United States Army Reserve and received an honorable discharge. Throughout his life he received numerous recognition and awards acknowledging his exemplary leadership in the church, school, and community.

James devoted himself to enriching the spiritual and personal lives that he touched along his journey. He loved the Lord and enjoyed talking and sharing with others about how God brought him through. He truly wanted his life to be a testimony to everyone and shared God's grace and mercy with them. At an early age, he joined the Greater Union Baptist Church where he served on the Finance Committee. He was a Bonded Treasurer and Sunday School Teacher. One June 11, 1974, he was ordained as a Deacon and later went on to serve as Chairman of Deacons.

James later connected with the Central Union Missionary Baptist Church located in Fort Valley, Georgia. He continued to serve as a Deacon and also served as the Sunday School Superintendent, Vacation Bible School Director, Finance Chairman, President of the Christian Education and was the Men's Sunday School Teacher. Through the untiring and unselfish efforts of Deacon James Dinkins, he was named Deacon Emeritus.

James was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, Gamma Sigma Lambda Chapter. He lived his life by the mantra "If I can help someone as I pass along, then my living will not be in vain." He loved to sing and had a fond love for metered hymns. Although his job on earth is done, the legacy of his influence will forever remain.

James leaves to cherish his memories and legacy:
- a devoted wife of 53 years: Ludell, R. Dinkins.
- three loving children: Matilda J. Dinkins of Hampton, Ga., James (Aneyeus) Dinkins II of Kathleen, Ga., and Michael (Tameka) Dinkins of Warner Robins, GA..
- seven grandchildren: James III, Jasmine, Victor, Nina, Nile, Myla, and Ashley.
- a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
