After the death of his first wife he was united in marriage to Mrs. Minerva Pogue who preceded him in death, Jan. 29, 1947. He left to mourn his loss twelve children, four sons and eight daughters, two step-children and thirty-eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The surviving children were Oscar Lee, Madeline Coy, Lilly Mullins, Robert Lee and Wrennie Israel of California, Bessie Baker of Oklahoma, Isabel Williams and Ollie Sarratt of Arkansas, Arthur and John D. Lee of Ellington, Missouri, Beulah Costephens and Bonnie Evans of St. Louis, Mo.
Step-children were Mrs. Myrtle Fissel of Ellington and Robert Pogue of St. Louis, Missouri.
Also surviving were one brother, Sam Lee of Oklahoma and one sister, Lizzie McFarland of Arkansas.
John obeyed the gospel and united with the Church of Christ in 1909 and soon after obeying the gospel he began to preach it from the pulpit and in Sunday School and Bible class, and continued this service until his death.
His sudden death was a shock to his family and friends, for although he had been in poor health for some time, suffering from heart trouble, he had been able to visit his friends in town regularly, and attended church on Friday night preceding his death on Sunday. Several years before his passing he had been badly injured in an automobile wreck, and his health had declined steadily since that time.
Funeral services were held at the Church of Christ in Ellington, Missouri with M. C. Love of Tennessee officiating. In eulogizing John, he had this to say:
"Brother Lee possessed and strongly advocated a high standard of morals. He was honest and upright in every way and he enjoyed the respect and confidence of the people in every community in which he lived.
Besides the children, step-children and grand-children, Brother Lee left a host of friends to mourn his passing."
