BREWER - Constance E. Avery, 84, died peacefully on Sunday, July 16, 2017, at her home in Brewer. Constance was born on September 23, 1932, in Brewer, Maine, the daughter of the late Russell and Suzanna (MacDonald) Costain.
She graduated from Brewer High School with the class of 1952 and had worked in the hot school lunch program for many years at both the elementary and high school in Brewer. Connie had also been employed as a dietary aide in the local area nursing homes and at EMMC. She enjoyed her years of raising sheep with her husband, Maurice, on their beloved farm in Athens. She currently attended the Calvary Baptist Church in Brewer and was a 35 year devoted member of the Hartland Baptist Church.
She is survived by her children, Richard Plaumann of Dedham, Douglas Plaumann and wife, Annette, of Dedham and Jane Small and husband, Vernon, of Garland; stepson, Peter Avery and wife, Lois, of Topsham; stepdaughter, Carolyn Bibber and husband, John, of Harpswell; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Dean Costain and wife, Bernadine, of Florida and Diane Adams of Florida; and sister- in-law, Margaret Costain of Brewer. She was predeceased by her husband, Maurice Avery; two brothers, David and Donald; and two sisters, Catherine and Susan.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 21, 2017, at the Calvary Baptist Church, 61 State Street, Brewer, with Pastor Rev. Dan Russell and Pastor Andy Spohrer officiating. A committal will immediately follow at the Harts Corner Cemetery, Main Road, Holden. Care has been provided by Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, Pittsfield.
