Lafargeville October 26, 1917

Coon Gilts, one of the oldest residents of this place, died at his home on Main Street, Wednesday morning, about six o'clock, following and illness of several months.

Mr. Gilts was born about seventy -three years ago, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Gilts. He was born in Hesse-Darmstadt, Germany and came over to America about 1853.

About fifty years ago, he was united in marriage to Miss Katherine Bowman of Lowville, NY.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Gilts have been in very poor health for the past few months.

He is survived by the widow and six daughters, Mrs. Lewis Dietrich, Mrs. Bernie Weaver, Miss Delia Gilts of Lafargeville, Mrs. Minnie Dudley of Antwerp, Mrs. Kittie Hotis of Evans Mills, Mrs. Lena Call of Theresa; and by five sons, Leonard Gilts of Lafargeville, Charles Gilts of Theresa, Clarence Gilts, Emery Gilts and Roswell Gilts of Philadelphia.

Mr. Gilts was identified with the German-Lutheran Church, south of this place, which is now abandoned.

The funeral will be held from the late home, Saturday, October 27, at 1:30 p.m., Rev. O.E. Raymond , Pastor of the Methodist Episcopal Church will conduct the service. Interment will be in Theresa Cemetery. The bearers will be four of the sons, Leonard, Clarence, Roswell and Emery.
