Robert known as Bob was born to the late Adolf and Elizabeth Arthofer. Bob grew up in Queens and Hicksville, NY. and graduated from Hicksville H.S. He graduated from Bucknell University, where he earned a degree in mathematics. After graduation, he served in the U.S. Army for three years. Serving others was one of Bob's avocations. He was an active member of Community Lutheran Church where one of his focuses was serving in the community. He was instrumental in helping a refugee family resettle and become citizens of the United States. Facilitating cooking and serving a bimonthly dinner at Greensboro dinner at Greensboro Urban Ministries and delivering Meals on Wheels were other ways that he served.

Growing roses was another of Bob's passions and he loved to show his roses and help others grow good roses. As a Consulting Rosarian, he often visited others' gardens and gave advice on rose growing. He was an active member of the Greenboro and Winston-Salem Rose Societies. Both the Bronze and Silver Medals were awarded to him for outstanding service to the American Rose Society.

Woodworking was another of Bob's interests and he not only built furniture for his home but also for family, friends, and his church.

Bob also loved music; he played the trumpet in high school and college and sang in church choirs for over 50 years.

Bob will be remembered for his love of his family, a good sense of humor and a cheery greeting for everyone!
