Mabel Marian Hamsher 1926-2017
Together Again
91 of Walnut Creek and formerly of Sugarcreek died Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at Walnut Hills Nursing Home in Walnut Creek following a period of declining health. She was born July 11, 1926 near Benton to the late Abram and Elizabeth (Kandel) Miller. She was a graduate of Berlin High School, worked for many years, as manager of Spector's Dry Goods in Sugarcreek and was a member of Walnut Creek Mennonite Church. She enjoyed nature and gardening, but most of all she enjoyed her family and had great pleasure in entertaining and having them all together. She was married on June 7, 1947 to Reuben Hamsher who died on September 4, 2009.
She is survived by her two sons, Arthur (Linda) Hamsher and Don (Brenda) Hamsher both of Sugarcreek; a daughter, Gayle (Eric) Lehti of Mentor-on-the-Lake; eight grandchildren, Matt (Kristina) Hamsher, Mark (Heidi) Hamsher, Michelle (Seth) Kolb, Drs. Melissa (Shinhan) Shiu, Lori (Chadd) Lester, Erin (Scott) Shelstad, Mike (Nikki) Hamsher and Marci (Ryan) Rothel; great-grandchildren, Carrie, Andrea, Ryan, Sophia, Madeline, Daisy and Kyra Hamsher, Daniel and Elliot Shiu, Amber and Justin Lester, Tanner, Ryder and Skyler Rothel, and Erik and Chloe Shelstad, and Charlotte and Brantley Kolb; one sister-in-law, (Linda) Miller of Chesapeake; and a brother-in-law, Dan Lapp of Plain City. In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death her sister and brother-in-law, Nina and Myron Gerber; her sister, Mary Lapp; her brother, Ohlen Miller; and a sister-in-law, Mary Lou Miller.
Services will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Walnut Creek Mennonite Church with Pastors Don Hamsher and Matt Hamsher officiating. Family burial will be in the Church Cemetery prior to services. Friends may call on Friday from 5-8 p.m. at the Church. Arrangements are being handled by Smith-Varns Funeral Home in Sugarcreek.
