Mr. Carroll E. Hoy Sr., age 89, of Frederick, went home to be with the Lord at 3:30 p.m. March 19.

He was the husband of his devoted wife, Vinnie M. Hoy of Frederick, for 46 years. He had been previously married to the late Mary Linda Graham Hoy for 17 years.

Born May 1, 1917, in Carroll County, he was a son of the late Daniel Raymond Hoy and Annie Elizabeth Disney Hoy.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked for the Doughnut factory in Ellicott City for many years and also for Hartman Roofing Co. and retired from the City of Frederick in 1982. He was a member of Maranatha Community Church of God for 37 years.

He was a loving and devoted dad to two daughters, Annie Elizabeth Hoy Jones of Union Bridge and Tranessa Hoy Snowden and husband Tyrone Snowden of Frederick. He was a devoted father to his seven sons, Frank Raymond Hoy Sr., Wayne Z. Hoy Sr. of Chambersburg, Darryl A. Hoy and wife Joanne Hoy, Raymond Eugene Hoy Sr., Joseph E. Thomas Sr. and wife Kathy Thomas and James W. Thomas Sr., all of Frederick; and two devoted adopted daughters, Betty Dorsey and Gaylee Giles.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Patricia Hoy; three sons, James Hoy, Carroll E. (June) Hoy Jr. and Lester Eugene (Butch) Hoy; one granddaughter, Stacey Snowden; and one brother, Louis Hoy; two sisters-in-law, Minnie M. Davis and Lilian Thomas.

He had 65 grandchildren. There were nine very devoted grandchildren: Alva Giles, Maria F. Wheeler, Saressa Greenwalt and husband James Greenwalt, Janice Jones and Penny Jones, Perry and Archie Jones of Union Bridge, Dante and Tywanda Snowden; and 80 great-grandchildren.

He is survived by three sisters, Dorothy M. Butler, Mary Smith, Delores Peach and husband Paul of West Virginia; four sisters-in-law, Pastor Mildred Bieard, Pastor Catharine Greene and Virginia Thomas, all of Baltimore, and Anna Mae Graham of Mount Airy; two brothers-in-law, Clyde Thomas and Elias Thomas. He is also survived by devoted family members Carolyn Jackson, Bishop Edna Isaac, Florence Greene, Rosie Greene, Rachel Butler, Larry Butler, John Thomas and Jack Thomas; one goddaughter, Nicole Wade and family; one godson, Frank Smith and family; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A public viewing will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 23, and family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Gary L. Rollins Funeral Home, Frederick.

Funeral service will be held at Marantha Church of God at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 24, with Pastor Jerry A. Price officiating. A viewing will be held at 10 a.m., one hour prior to services.

Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Vinnie M. Hoy or in his memory to the church.
