James Alexander Thompson III, 81, passed away Sunday evening, March 4, 2018, at the University Medical Center in Augusta, Ga.
He was born in Screven County to the late James Alexander Jr. and Eunice Elise Gray Thompson. He graduated from Screven County High School in 1954, where he served as senior class president. Afterwards, he attended The University of Georgia and graduated in 1958 with a Bachelor of Science in agriculture. He then returned home to Screven County and began his career in farming, a job he worked until his passing.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Margaret T. Lee.
He is survived by his children, Sally T. and Russell Brower of Sylvania, Ga.; Julie T. Ray of Statesboro, Ga.; Cindy T. and Doug Dixon of Isle of Hope, Ga.; and Jim and Valerie Thompson of Sylvania, Ga.; grandchildren, Eric Bargeron, Seth Brower, Ethan Brower, Maggie Ray, Katie Dixon, Dylan Dixon, Jacob Dixon, Tate Dixon, James Thompson, Hannah Thompson, Stephen Thompson and Erin Thompson.
The graveside service will be held Wednesday, March 7, 2018, at 4 p.m. in the Bay Branch Baptist Church Cemetery with Dr. William G. Henderson officiating.
