Mary Ann Cox was the oldest child of John Cox, Sr., a well-known limeburner in Lancasterville - Whitemarsh, Montgomery County, Pa. She married Jesse Leister, a glass packer.

Property: House situated on "west side of Delaware 8th St." and "356 feet southward from the southside of Thompson St. in the District of Penn, County of Philadelphia." Clinton St. described as rear boundry line. 17' frontage, 32' depth.

The original address was 662 N. 8th St. it was renumbered 1208 N. 8th St. when the City was renumbered in 1857.

Apparently, after her husband Jesse died, she moved to Poplar St. and rented out her house at 1208 N. 8th St. to working men. Her house was not sold until after she died. The 1890 Census lists the following living at the house:

Her brothers were executors of her estate and sold the house at 1208 N. 8th St. after she died.

She is buried in the Union Church (now Zion Evangelical Lutheran) Cemetary (Old Section, Row 1, lot 59) in Whitemarsh, Pa next to her husband Jesse Leister. The tombstone gives her dates of birth and death and remarks "at rest." Also, "Erected by John, Elizabeth, Angeline & Mary." Also, "Tombstone Cutter: M. McClintock, 2407 N. 9th St. Phila." There are plenty of Cox and several Leister tombstones. Some of these were born in the late 1770s.
