1928–2018

Early in the morning of July 20, 2018 Chauncey Leon Abbott (C.L.) passed away peacefully in his home in the arms of his sweetheart, Louise Abbott.

Leon was born April 2, 1928, in Hinckley, Utah, to William Leon and Nettie Mae Theobald. He was the seventh of eleven children. Leon served in the Navy from 1947 to 1949.

He married Louise Snell on May 31, 1950. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. They cared for each other and they were married for sixty-eight years. Leon was a tease and loved a good family party and a good story. He loved his large family. Also he had many wonderful friends. He spent many years coaching little league baseball. He helped organize the "Utah Baseball for Boys" in Spanish Fork. His team won the championship in 1961.

Leon and Louise served as stake missionaries. He served as a councilor in the bishopric and as a Bishop in the Ninth Ward (S.F.) for six years. He served as an ordinance worker in the Provo and Payson Temples for thirty years. He served in the American Legion Honor Guard for many years.

He loved to fish. One of the highlights of his life was when he went on a fishing boat in Valdez, Alaska, with his two grandsons. There he caught the biggest fish he had ever caught. He also loved fishing in Deer Creek. He loved his family and his many friends.

Leon is survived by his wife, Louise; one daughter, Janene and her husband, David Strate; one brother, Ladd Abbott, and one sister, Mary Lue Taylor; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 26, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the Quail Hollow Ward building, 928 Del Monte Road, Spanish Fork. There will be a viewing Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home, 187 South Main Street, Spanish Fork and also prior to the funeral services on Thursday from 9:00-10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will be held at the Spanish Fork City Cemetery.
