Set Rites For Bertha Jewell
Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p. m. for Mr Bertha A. Jewell, 80, who died Saturday (this morning) at Lockwood General Hospital. Rev. Floyd A. Emshwiller, pastor of the First Christian church, will be in charge of services at Peters Funeral Home. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery.
Mrs. Jewell was born Feb., 23, 1874, at Lakeville in St. Joseph county, Indiana.
She was married to Donovan R. Chew in 1888 and the couple moved to Boyne City in 1897 where they lived on a farm until moving to Petoskey in 1927. Mr. Chew died July 2, 1933 and she was married to Warren Jewell August 18, 1942.
Surviving are the husband; a daughter, Mrs. Evan Grubbs, Boyne City; two sons, Merton and Dale Chew, Petoskey; four step-daughters, Mrs. Albert Peterson and Mrs. Robert Bigelow, Detroit; Mrs. Romain Martin and Mrs. Wilbur Brown, Petoskey; two step-sons, Lawrence, Jewell, Petoskey and Marshall Jewell, Detroit; two brothers, Albert Adams, North Liberty, Indiana, and Wiley Chew, Elkhart, Indiana.
She was a member of the Christian church, the Rebekahs, Curtis Park Club, Women's Relief Corps and the auxiliaries of the Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Fraternal Order of Eagles. The body is at Peters Funeral Home where friends may call.
