He was born Sept. 15, 1927, in Oshkosh, the son of George and Ella Streicher Abel. He married Doris M. Balke Nov. 13, 1965, in Oshkosh.
Mr. Abel was employed by the city of Oshkosh since 1969, in the sanitation and park departments and most recently in the Oshkosh Public Works Department. He served in the U.S. Army and Navy and was a member of the American Legion Cook-Fuller Post. He was also a member of Local 796 American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees i and Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
Surviving are his widow; one son, David, Menasha; two sisters, Mrs. Patrick (Phyllis) Murphy, Mesa, Ariz., and Joan Abel, Neenah. Friends may call at the church Thursday from 2 p.m. until the time of services. Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
