Michael Shannon Kerns, 56, of Urbana, passed away on Sunday, November 4, 2018 in The Ohio State University Medical Center, Columbus.

He was born on March 19, 1962 in Urbana, OH, a son of Richard and Martha (Brennan) Kerns. Michael was a 1981 graduate of Urbana High School and a hard worker, working for ODOT for 33 ½ years and ODNR for two years. He was a foster parent for 13 years and loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Michael was a sports coach of all sports and bowled for many years. He liked to take drives, ride bikes and read books, liked to watch the History Channel and loved to bake and grill out.

He met Linda (Bowling) on October 31, 1982 and married her on June 1, 1985, spending 36 years together.

He is also survived by daughters, Sis Taylor, Ally Kerns, Mandy (Justice) Hagins and Courtney (Antonio) Delasancha; sons, Spencer (Betsy) Kerns, Travis Kerns, Christian (Alyssha) Austin, Preston Kerns, D.J. (Ashley) Foster and Kody Kerns; grandchildren, Lexi, Preston, Eliza, Ellie, Gus, Logan, Kamari, Kamron, Harmony, Jurnee, Ahlexis, Michael, Wyatt, Julien, Elias, Alicia, Jonathan, Selena, Cruz, Chaz, Joey, Alyssa, Nyenna, Jamariia and Antonia; sister, Robin (Ray) Burden; brothers, Patrick Kerns and Eddie (Michelle) Kerns; nieces and nephews, Bryce Burden, Tyler (Roni) Burden, Olivia (Colton) Kerns and Selby (Michelle) Kerns; and great-nieces and nephews, Bailey, Jaylee, Hunter, Winston and Waylen.

He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents; granddaughter, Malisa; nephew, Curtis; and niece, Cierra.

Family will receive friends noon-2 p.m. Saturday, November 10, 2018 in the WALTER & LEWIS FUNERAL HOME, Urbana, where a service will be held at 2 p.m. with Pastor Dick Keeran officiating.
