Life Legacy

Rose C. Delaney, 81 years old, passed away on November 20, 2018 while on hospice care at her home in Garden Ridge, Texas, surrounded by her loving family. Rose was born in Manhattan in New York City to Alfred and Rose Cox. She attended the Mary Lewis Academy in Queens, New York and the College of Mount St. Vincent in Riverdale, New York. She loved meeting people including one of her college classmates Corey Aquino, who later became the President of the Philippines. In Rose’s teenage years, she showed exceptional artistic talents. She painted, sang opera in the world renown Carnegie Hall and on the radio in NYC, and was a skilled pianist. Her family moved to Bayside Hills in Queens, New York where Rose met and married her future husband, Mark Delaney, who was one of her neighbors. Rose and Mark recently celebrated their 61st Wedding anniversary.

During Rose’s early marriage years, she and her Military husband moved to numerous postings. For example, In Orlando, Florida, she taught at a Catholic elementary school and had 76 students in her class! In South Carolina, she was a school teacher in a high school. When Mark was assigned to Korea in 1958, she supported his volunteer work at an orphanage in that war-ravaged country, by sending clothes which she and her neighbors in the U.S. collected. When her husband was assigned to Vietnam in the 1960s, she supported an orphanage’s needs there with collected clothes and a sewing machine.

Rose enjoyed traveling and getting to meet new friends. When she and her family moved to Tokyo in 1965, she immersed herself in Japanese culture and schooling and after two years, she received a certification to teach there. She also taught in a Japanese business school. When she and her family were reassigned to Washington DC, the Japanese Ambassador’s wife invited Rose to accompany her to a private luncheon in the White house, hosted by President Nixon’s wife, Pat Nixon. She wanted to show Mrs. Nixon an example of an American who had been able to outstandingly immerse herself into that country’s’ ancient and present culture. When Rose and family moved to Germany, she was one of the first Americans invited to sing with the famous Stuttgart Philharmonic orchestra.

Rose was active in the Catholic church both internationally, as well as in the U.S. She served as a Lector and Lay Eucharistic Minister. She also participated in the ST. Vincent de Paul program which provides much needed support to homeless and others in need. She also provided extensive support to the Garden Ridge Lions Club’s charitable endeavors.

Rose received many awards and accolades during her life. Examples included receiving an award presented by General Benny Davis, the Commander of the Strategic Air Command, for her initiatives to provide support to the young, single airmen at Offutt Air Force Base. She also received numerous business awards. For example, from the Re/Max President’s Club, as one of their top real estate agents in North America and was a Re/Max Top One Hundred Club awardee. In Nevada, she was presented with the annual Customer Service Excellence award by the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce and the Las Vegas Convention & Visitor’s Authority. She also received a Certificate of Appreciation from the Garden Ridge Lions Club for Distinguished and Unselfish service to the Garden Ridge Lions Club.

Rose led an amazing life and left behind her husband and four children: Mark, a Supervisor in one of Las Vegas’ largest casinos, Cathy, a gemologist and retired real estate owner/broker in Denver, Steven a managing attorney of a law office in Omaha, and Rosemary, an English as a Second Language (ESL) Specialist for a San Antonio Independent School District. Her family also includes 15 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Her entire family joins many others around the world whose lives were touched by this courageous and caring person.
