Our beloved mother, Oma Edith "Ras" Acord, 100 years old, has gone to her heavenly home on Thursday December 27, 2018.
The daughter of the late Wilbert H."Bill" and Mary Frances Cook Acord, "Ras" was born at Tams, WV on September 21, 1918. She spent a lot of her childhood in coal camps in both Wyoming and Raleigh Counties. At age 16, she married Rev. Dewey Acord and they had ten children. Mom was a devout Christian and member of Akers Baptist Church at Maple Meadow.

She enjoyed hunting, fishing, ginsenging, gardening, and sewing quilts and clothing.

Mom loved her children and taught them of Jesus from the cradle up and loved having the family around her. When asked what her secret to a long and happy life was, she would say-"Love the Lord and live to serve and please him".

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Dewey H. Acord, her parents, Wilbert "Bill" Acord and Mary Frances Cook Acord, an infant son, Lewis Acord, and daughter Shirley Acord Smith. Mom was also preceded in death by three brothers, Fred, James, and Everett Acord, two sisters, Jessie Smith and Charlotte Cozart; three sons-in-law, David McKinney, Henry Dills, and Billy Smith; three grandsons, Darrin Acord, Stephen Cox and Greg Carter.
She is survived by three sons, Wayne (Drema) Acord of Low Gap, NC, Wilbert "Hiram" (Margaret) Acord, and Charles (Linda) Acord, all of Lester, WV. Five daughters, Margie "Esther" Dills, Francie (John) Williams, Naomi"Dorcas" Acord, Cerena (Samuel) Cox, all of Lester, WV, and Wanda McKinney of Stephenson, WV. Three sisters, Eunice Roupe of Cement City, Michigan, Billie Jean Davis, and Willie Dean Roe, of Lester, WV.

Mom was called Maw Maw "Ras" by 19 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, 27 great-great grandchildren,, and 2 great-great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home Peace Chapel in Beckley on Sunday December 30, 2018 at 2 PM with Rev. Ardeth Bailey officiating. Burial will follow at Acord Cemetery on Acord Mountain. Friends may visit with the family from noon until service time on Sunday at the funeral home. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
