Obituary for Phyllis Jean (Rumsey) Adams

You left us beautiful memories, your love is still our guide, tho’ we cannot see you, you’re always at our side….Surrounded by her loving family Phyllis Jean (Rumsey) Adams, 80, of Bath, NY passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, March 31, 2019. Phyllis was the most loving, caring wife, mother and grandmother, mother-in-law, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin and friend. Phyllis was born on December 11, 1938 in Bath, NY a daughter of the late Leslie E. and Janneith (Knowles) Rumsey.

She was a graduate of the Haverling High School Class of 1957. On July 27, 1957 she married Lawrence Adams and together they shared nearly 62 years of marriage. For many years, Phyllis taught Home Bureau, was a 4-H Leader, a Tri Chem & Artex Dealer. She lovingly cared for others as a private home caregiver in and around the Owego area.

Phyllis will be greatly missed by her loving husband Lawrence A. Adams; her children: Phyllis (Richard) Brown; Steven (Wendy) Adams and Melissa (Dana) Swansbrough; her brothers: Leslie (Karen) Rumsey, William (Betty) Rumsey Curt (Wendy) Rumsey; her grandchildren: Stephanie (Kirk) Schroer, Sr.; Melanie (TJ) Brown, Raymond (Ann) Rogers, Ajay (Elizabeth) Brown, Dawn (Jerry) Houston, Phillip (Tegan) Williams, Shawn Williams, Shane Williams, Bridget Pinney, Brenda Mosher, Steven (Kristina) Tuttle, Annette Pond, Erica Pond, Megan Pond, Nikkie Pond, Miranda Swansbrough, Larry “Mikey” (Dana) Swansbrough, Dillon, Leslie, Karissa, Travis, Trenton, Steven, Quinton, Isabella, Annabella Swansbrough. Her Great grandchildren: Kirk Schroer, Jr., Tyler Schroer, Dillian (Nicole) Wessels, Austin Wessels, Trevor Brown, Sonya Rogers, Aubrey Rogers, Kayla Rogers, Savannah Rogers, Kelsey Rogers, Tyler Rogers Alexis Brown, Valerie Brown, Hendrix Welfel, Zoey Welfel, Clayton Houston, Tabbitha Clapper, Sabrina Nornhold, Brennah Pinny, Tihanna Tuttle, Keisha Tuttle, Darian Martin, Dakota Beavers; Great great grandchildren: O’von Rogers, Josiah Rogers, Raylynn Swansbrough, Ariella Swansbrough; life long friends: Peggy Kirch, Helen (Buttons) Walters, Mary Lou Hildebrant and Nancy Crawford; her loving and protective dog Sambo; several other great grandchildren; nieces, nephews. Phyllis was predeceased by her parents; a son Lawrence Leslie “George” Adams.

Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation on Saturday, April 6th from 10 to 12 pm at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St. Nichols. A funeral service and celebration of her life will follow at 12 pm with Pastor Bobby Harris, a family friend, officiating. Interment will follow in the Tioga Cemetery, Owego.
