A 1947 graduate of Walnut Creek High School, Gerald was part of the radio quartet that provided music for the Glad Tidings Hour for several years. While a student at Prairie Bible College, Alberta, Canada, he was selected to participate in the prestigious Men of Song, touring Canada. After graduation he worked at a Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Center for eight years in South Bend, IN. After Gerald retired from Keim Lumber, he enjoyed being a taxi driver for the Amish.
During 60 plus years at Countryside Chapel, he was choir director, song leader, Youth Leader, Sunday School teacher, and elder. Gerald and Ada were board members of India Evangelical Mission, Los Angeles, CA, and visited southern India to review their work. He was very concerned about those who had not heard the good news about Jesus.
Gerald and Ada spent many happy winters in Sarasota, FL, enjoying shuffle boarding, game nights, and singing in the choir with all the wonderful friends at Bahia Vista Estates.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his six children, Rita (Marvin) Miller of Sarasota, FL, Don (Jody) Hershberger of Sugarcreek, Rod (Elaine) Hershberger of Sarasota, FL, Gina (Tim) Miller of Berlin, Denny (Shelly) Hershberger of Sugarcreek, and Krisi (Chris) Gertz of Winesburg; 19 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and his brother Truman of State College, PA.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Jerid; two brothers, Eugene and Doran; and his sister Oma.
