Wendell Edwards of Fullerton, Calif., passed away on March 25, 2012, after celebrating his 86th birthday one week earlier.


He was born in rural Keytesville, Mo., in 1926 to Roosevelt and India (Young) Edwards, and graduated from Salisbury (MO) High School in 1944.


He married his high school sweetheart, Opal Lucille Speiser, and served in the Army Air Corps as WWII was drawing to a close. During his 40-year career as a federal meat inspector with the USDA, a number of promotions took Wendell and his family to various locations throughout Missouri, Nebraska, and finally California.


Wendell is survived by his wife, Dena; his daughters, Carole Ann Edwards of Garden Grove, Calif., and Gloria Krakow and husband Rick of Fort Myers, Fla.; stepson, Stevens Ernst and wife Myra of West Monroe, La.; along with eight grandchildren, Andrew, Shawn, and Holly Palandri; Caitlin, Brynna, and T. Scott Gillespie; Bradley Ernst and Jessamine Ernst Graham, and one great-grandson, Carmelo Rossi. In addition, Wendell is survived by his sister-in-law, Mary Edwards of Fullerton, Calif.; nephews , Jeff, Scott, and David Edwards, and nieces, Donna de la Cruz and Joan Washington. Wendell was preceded in death by both parents, his first wife, and his brother, Quentin Edwards.


A funeral service and celebration of Wendell's life will take place at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 31, at the Asbury Methodist Church in rural Keytesville, Mo. Viewing to begin at 9 a.m. Interment will follow in te Asbury Cemetery. Arrangements by the Summerville Funeral Home, Salisbury, Mo.
